Prevention Is
Better Than Cure:
Eliminate the Main Causes of Hemorrhoids
Knowledge can empower you. The best move you can
do is to find out what the causes of hemorrhoids
are and stop it. If it seems impossible to control it, like child
bearing, you can find ways to prevent
hemorrhoids
from getting worse. We all know that sometimes life is not that fair
and (like having hemorrhoids), there are factors that are not within
our control. However, hemorrhoid
prevention is possible with a little advanced knowledge.
Basically, the causes of hemorrhoids can be
categorized into two: namely, avoidable and unavoidable.
Aside from child bearing, other possible
unavoidable causes of hemorrhoids are genetics and aging.
During pregnancy,
the growing baby inside the uterus is situated above the anus, adding
pressure to it, which may lead to hemorrhoids. However, most of the
time hemorrhoids during pregnancy
disappear after giving birth. If, in this case, hemorrhoids ensue, in
order to prevent them from getting worse, expecting mothers should
avoid prolonged standing and sitting and relax their lower body by
raising their legs to reduce abdominal and rectal pressure.
Pregnancy
should be a wonderful, joyous and exciting chapter for expecting
mothers. Let it not be ruined because of hemorrhoids.
With regards to genetics and aging, some people
may inherit weakness
of the walls of the veins in the anal region, making them more
susceptible to hemorrhoids. While we age, the tissues in the lining of
the anus become less supportive and may protrude as pressure in that
area is increased. That is why the elderly are prone to hemorrhoids.
These factors may be unavoidable, but you can still find ways to
control the situation and be above it.
Avoidable factors include:
heavy lifting
straining when defecating
constipation
prolonged diarrhea
severe coughing
being overweight
sitting on the toilet for a
long time
If you look closely, the common denominator of
these factors is anal pressure.
It is because when there is too much rectal pressure, the blood flow
through the veins in the rectum is disrupted, increasing the stress
against the walls of the rectal veins. It is like a tsunami that hits a
building, and then shattering the windows. The pressure causes blood to
bulge the walls of the veins of the rectum, and sometimes, rupturing
them.
However, you would be surprised how easy it is to
avoid these factors!
Unfortunately,
there are situations and factors that are not within your control, but
don't let them stop you from enjoying life. Don’t feel helpless (and
most especially hopeless) because for every problem, there is a
solution.
What you need to do now is to think and determine
what
factors are applicable to you and what makes you at risk of
hemorrhoids. Then the next step is to beat it. Find ways to avoid those
that are avoidable while those that are unavoidable, prevent existing
hemorrhoids from worsening and treat them fast.
Sometimes all it takes is knowledge to beat it.
Once you know the causes of hemorrhoids, they are beatable.
Even
though haemorrhoids are an extremely common condition which commonly
affect people either episodically or chronically, it is indeed a
sensitive issue for many of them who will very often refrain from
taking any action and speaking to their doctor. Overlooking the problem
however, as for many other things, is not the solution and it is
probably why there is a tendency of many misconceptions about piles
symptoms and causes.
Myths about
Haemorrhoids
“You can get
haemorrhoids from sitting on cold surfaces.”
Many
people believe that sitting on cold sidewalks can actually cause you
haemorrhoids. This is false. Nor is temperature a significant cause for
the internal anal pressure that occurs in the case of haemorrhoids.
“Haemorrhoids
can be a preliminary symptom of cancer.”
Although
rectal bleeding will often make people worry about a symptom of cancer,
the cause of it has a totally different nature which is due to the
rupture of the internal haemorrhoid and is in no way related to a
cancer symptom. There is no evidence either that piles can later lead
to a form of cancer.
“Once you
have haemorrhoids you are going to have them reappearing over and over.”
Unless
there is a genetic predisposition to haemorrhoids which can be one of
the causes in the reappearance of the symptoms, the condition can be
temporary and disappear definitely by using a piles
treatment and by eliminating the causes which are likely to
produce the condition.
“Haemorrhoids
are only affecting older people.”
Because
the loss of elasticity in anal tissues is also part of the causes of
haemorrhoids, the appearance of haemorrhoids can also be part of the
aging process. However, this cannot be considered as a symptom
restricted to older people since there are many more other causes and
factors implicated which make haemorrhoids a common problem for many
people of all ages.
